The fact that the Mike Shayne series can boast such a wide array of book cover art naturally compels it to be collected in one place.
And that place is here.
Below is a complete list of the Mike Shayne novels, written by Halliday himself and by ghost authors. The date next to the title in parentheses is the year the book was first published. Underneath each book title, you'll see a number of thumbnailed book covers. Click on any one of them to open a pop-up window displaying the book's front and back covers, along with its edition number, year the edition was published and cover artist if known.
The Shayne books are graced with cover art by artists such as Gerald Gregg, Robert Stanley and Robert McGinnis. Unfortunately, the late '60s/early '70s saw the demise of cover illustration. Instead, the books of this period were forced to bear some truly horrific "photo" covers. Note that these were all paperback originals and had no hardcover first edition.
On that note, you may see some hardcover first edition covers popping up throughout, so be on the lookout.
One other thingthe pseudonym listings and the information in the "Notes" section of each book listing came courtesy of Private Investigator Entertainment Service and from Allan J. Hubin's Crime
Fiction (University of California, San Diego, 1979). PIES is an excellent site that has thousands of new and used books pertaining to the PI fiction genre.
Now, with that said, enjoy the gallery tour.
